The 'COME AND TAKE IT' Rifle Flag is a variation of the Gonzales Flag. A symbol of standing up to tyranny and those who would remove citizens' protection, the Gonzales 'COME AND TAKE IT' Flag was first flown in 1835 when a contingent of Texans fought to keep the cannon that the Mexican government had provided them to fight off Comanche raids. Any bond between Mexico and the town of Gonzales had deteriorated and, worried that the folks of Gonzales would use the cannon against them, the Mexicans planned force against the town to take it back. The Texans initiated a pre-emptive strike and drove the Mexicans away, flying a painted Flag depicting the cannon, the lone star of Texas and clear words of warning. The Flag was created by two women of Gonzales, Cynthia Burns and Evaline DeWitt.

Beginning in the 1990's, versions of the Flag with a rifle replacing the cannon became popular as a beacon for the right to bear arms.
