While the same historical photo appears in many Veterans Day resources, I chose to have my illustrator create an original reproduction. This gives young readers the chance to experience history through art rather than a stock image, making the moment feel both powerful and fresh.
★ This realistic fiction picture book is for children, their families, and teachers. I hope it will inspire all Americans to give honor to our military members: to show respect for the sacrifices and even to assist them.
About the Author
As the proud mother of a US Marine Corps Reservist, Karen Bowen brings her deep personal connections and understanding of military life to her writing.
After the success of her previous patriotic childrens book, The Worn-Out Flag Karen was inspired to write the sequel, Honoring Veterans - Serving Those Who Serve. This book weaves history, patriotism, and personal action into a story that inspires children and families to both understand Veterans Day and take part in honoring those who serve.
Her experiences as a retired elementary teacher and her love for working with children have enriched her storytelling, making her books poignant, educational, and memorable experience for young readers and their families.
